Hi All, To kick this group off, I'm a regular user of an asthma inhaler produced by GlaxoSmithKline (http://www.gsk.co.nz/). The medication (http://www.gsk.co.nz/product.asp?productID=21) consists of a little bottle of the actual drug plus a plastic holder (which is most of the bulk of the product). The item lasts for up to a few months, after which it is replaced. The plastic holder is still perfectly good after this time, and the bottle is easily separated from it by design (so you can clean it if necessary). The problem is that you get one of these plastic holders every time you buy a new inhaler. The perfectly good holder from the last one is not recyclable and goes straight into the bin. Given that hundreds of thousands of these things will be sold in NZ alone every year, that's a fair bit of plastic going to landfill unnecessarily. So, I emailed them about it via their contact page and got told to contact them at 0800 808 500. I did so, and talked to a customer services rep who took my details and said that someone would get back to me. I'll keep you posted on developments. Also, if you know anyone else who's an asthma sufferer, you might want to suggest they get in touch with GlaxoSmithKline about this as well. Cheers, Andrew.
Just to follow up on this, I got a call from GSK (NZ) a week after I called.
The helpful young man who called said that they couldn't sell me the plastic
holder separately as the whole thing came from overseas, but that he'd pass on
my suggestion. So, not an immediate success but at least I made my point.
