A new file has been uploaded into the Waste Action Network files area at: http://reurbanise.onlinegroups.net/groups/wasteactionnetwork/files You can open the file at: http://reurbanise.onlinegroups.net/r/file/7577-2006-07-12T212720Z File details: name: bags.jpg description: All our waste plastic bags during a clean up. tags: "" type: image/jpeg size: 40KB
I just cleaned out our plastic bag drawer and discovered years of stored waste
(the photo kinda says it all)
Supermarket bags I can handle and they are headed to the recycling. Warehouse
bags are headed back to the Warehouse. Bread bags and those clear plastic bags
that fruit and veges tend to be packed in I'm keeping for future use (the clear
bags are great if you're germinating seeds or need to cover a tender seedling).
We do, however, have a load of those heavy plastic bags from shoe shops and the
like. Does anyone know what can be done with those?

I don't imagine they can be recycled, but apart from declining them in
the first place :-), I wonder what would happen if you took them back to
the place you go them from ? Do you want to try it sometime and post
back here as to the reaction you get ?
As to what the shop would do with them, I imagine they just go straight
to landfill, but at least it wasn't you doing the landfilling ...
